Denture Care Assistance

Key Points

  • Line sink before handling dentures to reduce breakage risk if dropped.
  • Clean all denture surfaces with denture brush; water-only cleaning is acceptable when paste is unavailable.
  • Clean gums and tongue with moist oral swab and provide overnight denture soaking when indicated.
  • Store dentures in a labeled enclosed cup when not in use, and remove them for surgery or selected diagnostic procedures.
  • Avoid continuous 24/7 denture wear to reduce mucosal irritation and fit deterioration.
  • Encourage routine denture brushing twice daily and cool-water rinsing to reduce oral inflammation burden.

Common Errors

  • Unlined sink during denture handling increases denture-breakage risk.
  • Hot water rinsing can warp denture material.
  • Skipping gum/tongue cleansing when dentures removed leaves oral mucosa hygiene incomplete.
  • Unlabeled or open denture storage increases loss/damage risk and delays safe return to use.
